Supported Diagram Types
The current application and MCP schema accept these twelve diagram types:
| Diagram type | Purpose |
|---|---|
freeform | General-purpose diagrams without a fixed UML/C4 level. |
flowchart | Processes and decisions — Mermaid flowchart. |
class | Classes, interfaces, enums and their relations — Mermaid classDiagram. |
sequence | Participants exchanging messages — Mermaid sequenceDiagram. |
state | States and transitions — Mermaid stateDiagram-v2. |
er | Entities and relationships — Mermaid erDiagram. |
uml | UML diagrams Mermaid has no family for (use case, activity, component, deployment). |
c4-context | People and software systems at the highest C4 level. |
c4-container | Applications, APIs, databases, queues, and containers within a system. |
c4-component | Components inside a container-level view. |
c4-dynamic | A C4 view of interactions between architecture elements. |
c4-deployment | A C4 view of deployment infrastructure and instances. |
Importing Mermaid sets the diagram type to the source's family, and exporting writes that family back. See Mermaid compatibility for import/export fidelity.
Drill-Down
Context-to-container and container-to-component navigation follow the C4 hierarchy where supported. Nested diagrams keep their own components and connections. See Link model for optional semantic links between diagram instances.
